A day in Champagne-Ardenne..

If you’re wanting to go to that somewhere special then look no further than Champagne-Ardenne, Reims. This simply is a beautiful and magical place. Learn about the mysteries of champagne, the making of and explore the beautiful underground caves (cellars). It truly is an experience that cannot be missed.

I have put together a few images below to show you “some” of the experiences you can imagine to do / come across

So as you can image, we started from the ground up. Here you can see some images of the fields in Champagne showing all the vines and the vast area it is grown.

DSCF5372The best champagne is grown on a bank side. This is because the clay levels are much greater and enhances the growth and flavour of the champagne

Following on from the fileds all the champagne is lay down for a period of time to allow the sediment to come to the neck of the bottle.

Below is an image of a bottle of champagne with sediment in (whilst lay down)

Next is the taking out of the sediment from the champagne. They build up A LOT of pressure whilst lay down and the sediment must be removed. They use a hook tool to flick the cork out into a special (safe) area and the sediment follows because of the amount of pressure (roughly the same pressure as a HGV wagon tyre) . Then the bottle is filled up with a little mixture of the champagne to top it back up. Below are some images of this happening. (Below are Jeroboam size bottles)

There are a few more process of laying down and labeling etc.. but then! The best bit. The tasting of all the champagne from the houses you visit!
